I loved 95% of the game, but I completely agree, and I don't at all buy the "Well it was always a simple story about regular people" explanation. Because of this, I thought the ending was quite nice and relaxing. After thinking though I'm not really sure why I thought this, but those key moments really had my heart beating and my paranoia through the roof. I was totally relieved though once I saw Henry get into the helicopter. There were even a few moments from Ned's bunker afterwards where Delilah doesn't respond to Henry, making me paranoid. In Delilah's tower there's even a drawing labeled "What WE know" implying there was somebody else. I also thought the whole Ned's bunker thing was a diversion to keep Henry busy while Delilah and Ned, under Henry's identity, took off in the helicopter. The reason I thought this was because of a few key moments, like when Delilah was talking to another person and saying things like "He doesn't know." She also asks him to describe to her what he looks like, so Ned can easily take his identity once Henry is out of the picture. I don't know why I thought this, but from the point when you discover Ned's bunker onward I thought for sure Ned and Delilah had hatched an elaborate scheme to trap Henry in a fire that they started and to have him killed in the fire while Ned takes Henry's place once they leave. Failed to make anything out of it.Īm I alone to think this? What's everyone else's opinion? Is there perhaps some kind of hidden ending, some kind of big secret are we missing something big? But it feels like the writers set up this huge intriguing mystery and then just. While making my way to the evac point, I was convinced there was some kind of swerve coming - something that would throw a new light on things, turn the story around - but that moment never came.ĭon't get me wrong. It's an ending that leaves more questions than it answers, and it feels shallow and disappointing. The entire final act of the game felt pretty rushed, to be honest. But when the "twist" turned out to be that Ned caused his son's death, it just felt like a cheap cop-out. They had the set-up for a fantastic mystery story there, and it had me intrigued all the way through. We get a short, awkward goodbye between the two and that's it. Someone's implying that they could blackmail us, having recorded our conversations, making it seem like we lied to the police and caused the fires ourselves.Īnd in the end, it was a crazy father who accidentally killed his son and then decides to just disppear, the teenage girls turn up out of nowhere completely fine, and Henry and Delilah just get evacuated from the area. Shortly after we arrive there, the whole place gets set on fire. Find meticulous assessment and transcripts of our characters, in a place with tons of expensive equipment. We hear a strange signal by the lake, find that walkie-talkie from the research site, get knocked out. Their tent gets ripped apart and they leave behind lots of their stuff. We start the game off finding these teenage girls. But it feels like the plot - what actually happens in the game, outside of the interactions between and backstories of Delilah and Henry - was all build-up and no payoff. I honestly kind of expected that would happen. So, I've just made it through, and while the journey was a beautiful one - Delilah is a fantastic character, so is Henry, the environments are beautiful, the story is intriguing and emotional - the ending kind of fell completely flat for me.
